Tim Burton is a masterful director. He's taken us to Gotham city, a dark London, Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, the city of Sleepy Hollow, and L.A. in the 30s. Now he is breaking new grounds, by taking us to wonderland. And indeed the art direction is fabulous. With Alice in Wonderland, we are given many things that we haven't seen before, we get a breakout performance from one of my favorite new actresses, Mia Wasikowska, as Alice. She is just fantastic! And we get a hilariously memorable performance by Helena Bonham Carter as the bid headed Red Queen. And we have Johnny Depp. The reason I love Johnny so much is because he can take any character, simple or not, Mad Hatter for example, and make it a totally absorbing, interesting, and eccentric. In this film we also get another great score by the great Danny Elfman, that goes with the picture. There's also some mind blowing special effects, particulary the effects on Cheshire Cat, how he evaporates from one place to another. The costume design is original and unique.The makeup was new and fun. The cinematography and art direction is totally great and beautiful. But there was something missing. The story was kind of simple, but that's the only criticism that I can come up with, it's a great movie. The film is a journey, and we go along with Alice on the journey, and we meet the characters with Alice on the journey. We go places with Alice, and we are as curious as Alice, and that's some uniquie film making. Burton's direction is inventive, imaginative, and mind blowing. Alice in Wonderland is infinite fun, and you should definitely see it! In 2-D or 3-D, just see it!!!

Expect many technical Academy Award nominations for this new masterpiece from Tim Burton!
