"He came to America, with nothing but a dream." -Tagline
Richard Attenborough's Chaplin is a gentle bio-pic. The picture centers around the orgins of the historic actor Charlie Chaplin who is amazingly played by Robert Downey Jr. who received a BAFTA for his performance in this film and an Oscar nomination. The film is incredibly well made, filled with wonderful art direction, costume design, and an amazing emotionally gripping score by composing legend John Barry. I don't really believe that this film is totally accurate. It's filled with some rediculous plot material that we know isn't true, but Richard Attenborough is good at making the audience absolutely love this man, Chaplin. Like everyone who lives on earth, Chaplin had his problems, he loved girls. He drank. And he revolutionized the history of cinema. The screenplay has it's inaccuracies, but the film's performances, and Attenborough's direction, and the set designs in this picture just look great. It's certainly not a bad film, infact it's a wonderful film. Chaplin is a biopic that goes more places than you'd excpect.
